You could read for months about how to become an effective leader or pay significant sums to participate in leadership training courses, for little or no result. Consider that good leaders practice what they preach, are sincere, passionate and do what they say they are going to do. It’s a pretty simple formula, keep your promises, have a plan, focus on the goal and place your trust in people to do the right thing. Doing the “right thing” is however often difficult and generally has consequences for the leader and the team. The “right thing” is also not often clear or obvious. Figuring out the “right thing” typically takes some thoughtful consideration and teamwork to arrive at the appropriate solution. Grand change and transformation strategies only deliver value when carefully executed. Change execution requires that teams work well together and trust one another to do the “right thing”. Creating a high performing team requires that the team is passionate, keeps its promises, has a plan and trusts one another.. Funny that these qualities are also required in a good leader.
